NA Chairman meets Vietnamese businesses in Laos

(VOV) - National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung has urged Vietnamese businesses in Laos to enhance cooperation with Lao partners and seek new opportunities to make their operation more efficient.

At a meeting with representatives of the Association of Vietnam Investors in Laos (AVIL) in Vientiane on September 17, Hung appreciated their efforts in generating jobs for local people, and contributing to developing special ties between the two countries.

He stated that Vietnam always attaches much importance to and gives priority to fostering traditional ties of friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Laos.

He acknowledged the effective cooperation in economics, trade and investment between Vietnam and Laos, noting last year’s two-way trade exceeding US$1 billion for the first time.

Vietnam has so far invested in 413 projects in Laos with a combined capitalisation of around US$5 billion, ranking second among foreign investors in the country.

The NA Chairman specially hailed AVIL’s leading role in encouraging Vietnamese businesses to invest in Laos, pooling resources for Vietnamese projects and coordinating with relevant ministries and departments to organise economic cooperation events, investment promotion conferences and seminars.

The success of Vietnamese businesses in Laos will help strengthen bilateral ties and bring practical benefit for both economies, Hung said.

He expressed his hope that Laos will continue to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to operate in the country.

On same day, Hung, who is leading Vietnamese delegation to the 35th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-35), met Lao President Choummaly Sayasone.
