During the one-day seminar, the two sides shared experiences and explored opportunities to promote cooperation between their businesses.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP), the Russian market has a great demand for fish fillets, dry seafood and shrimps.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has also urged seafood producers and exporters to improve the quality of export products.

The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Physio-Sanitary Surveillance (VPSS) plans to send a delegation to Vietnam to inspect Vietnamese seafood businesses’ production facilities.

Vietnam is currently the fourth biggest seafood supplier to Russia, after Norway, China and Denmark, with its main staple - tra and basa catfish – fetching an export turnover of US$90 million last year, making up 9.2 percent of seafood export value to the market.

In an effort to further promote seafood exports to Russia, VASEP has registered to take part in the Moscow World Food Fair from September 23-26 in the Russian capital city.

It is hoped the fair will be a chance for Vietnamese businesses to find foreign partners and promote trade, as well as helping local seafood businesses investigate the Russian market to increase investment cooperation in seafood processing.

By the end of July, Vietnam had obtained a seafood export turnover of US$90 million from Russia, a 35 percent year-on-year increase.
