Ministry of Finance strengthens investor connections in US
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Finance (MoF), in coordination with the State Bank of Vietnam, successfully hosted a Non-Deal Roadshow (NDR) in the US from September 21 to 25, with logistical and operational support from J.P. Morgan, one of the world’s leading financial institutions.
This is part of side activities during the working visit to the United States by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam and his high-ranking Vietnamese delegation.
The program is designed to update the global financial community on Vietnam's macroeconomic performance, fiscal and monetary policy orientations, and public debt management plans. This investor connection campaign coincided with high-level diplomatic activities in the US that delivered a strong message regarding Vietnam's resolve for reform and integration.
In interviews with Bloomberg TV and meetings with the US business community, the top Vietnamese leader affirmed Vietnam's determination to accelerating institutional reforms and creating a transparent, favorable investment environment for international financial institutions and investors. The consistent directives from Party and State leaders on balancing economic interests and elevating national financial standing serve as the guiding principle for the financial sector's promotional and public debt management activities.
To put this direction into practice, the delegation held direct working sessions with leading global institutional investors, including asset management funds and worldwide hedge funds. Representatives from the Ministry of Finance provided a comprehensive overview of Vietnam's macroeconomic picture and economic growth prospects, alongside the government's strategy for diversifying capital mobilization channels in the coming period. The delegation also engaged in dialogue to gather feedback from investors on the Vietnamese market and their level of interest in debt instruments issued by the Vietnamese government.
International investors spoke highly of Vietnam's macroeconomic stability and long-term development potential, while acknowledging the Ministry of Finance's efforts to enhance transparency and information sharing. Feedback from the trip will serve as a vital baseline for the ministry to closely monitor international capital market developments and formulate cost-effective capital mobilization strategies for the government.
During the working trip, the delegation met with Elisa Parisi-Capone, Vice President and Senior Analyst for the Sovereign Risk Group at the credit rating agency Moody's, in New York as part of regular working sessions.
In May, Moody's announced its sovereign credit rating review for Vietnam, maintaining the rating at Ba2 and upgrading the outlook from Stable to Positive. This reflects the agency's evaluation of long-term growth prospects, robust trade performance, foreign direct investment inflows, a solid fiscal position with relatively low and stable government debt, sound debt-servicing capacity, and ongoing improvements in institutional quality and governance.
At the meeting, the delegation updated Moody's on economic, financial, budgetary, and public debt developments, institutional reform efforts, and government management measures aimed at maintaining macroeconomic stability and striving to achieve double-digit growth targets. Moody's representatives commended the Vietnamese Government's efforts to navigate challenges amid a turbulent global environment, as shown in the agency's positive assessment of the country's medium-term outlook.
Moody's also shared insights from countries that have achieved Investment Grade status, noting that Vietnam's continued focus on institutional reform and risk mitigation in the banking sector and state-owned enterprise debt will contribute positively to its sovereign rating upgrade trajectory.
Alongside investor connection activities, Minister of Finance Ngo Van Tuan held a bilateral meeting with representatives of J.P. Morgan. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on strategic cooperation potential, highly valuing J.P. Morgan's advisory and support role in developing Vietnam's capital market and advancing integration with the global financial system.
The Non-Deal Roadshow is a regular operational activity conducted by the Ministry of Finance to maintain and reinforce dialogue with the international financial community. As Vietnam enters a new phase of development focused on rapid and sustainable growth, regular dialogue holds profound strategic significance, bolstering global investor confidence in the dynamic momentum of the Vietnamese economy.
