Millions of 'Made-in-Vietnam' bird's nest products sold to China
VOV.VN - Millions of “Made in Vietnam” bird's nest products have been sold in the Chinese market since the signing of the protocol between the two countries in 2022.

This information was released at a May 8 conference held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MoAE) to discuss the implementation of the protocol on quarantine, inspection, and veterinary hygiene requirements for raw bird's nest and clean bird's nest export products to China.
In fact, four years on from implementing the protocol, up to 13 Vietnamese enterprises have been approved to export bird's nest products to the demanding market.
More than four tonnes of refined bird's nest and millions of bird's nest products worth more than US$4 million have been officially exported to China with over 220 bird's nest samples tested for food safety indicators.
Despite the positive results, insiders pointed out that the number is yet to match the Chinese market's demand.
According to experts, Vietnamese bird's nests have their presence in the Chinese market over a decade after their Malaysian and Indonesian rivals. Therefore, Chinese consumers still do not know much about the Vietnamese bird's nest brand.
Furthermore, the Chinese market opened right after the COVID-19 pandemic, causing the purchasing power of Chinese people to decrease sharply, especially for high-end products such as bird's nests.
Meanwhile, Vietnam's bird's nest production technology and techniques are not yet high, leading to higher prices, making it difficult to compete with similar products from other countries in the region.
Moreover, cheap bird's nests from Malaysia and Indonesia are imported into Vietnam in large quantities, directly competing with local products.
To expand the types of bird's nest export products, right after signing the 2022 protocol, the MoAE continued to negotiate to export raw bird's nests to China, and both sides inked another protocol on April 15, 2025 covering both clean and raw bird's nests.
According to industry insiders, China is currently the world's largest bird's nest consumer market and boasts high and stable demand.
The opening of this market is expected to help Vietnamese firms gain access to a huge number of potential customers, thereby further boosting exports and increasing revenue in the future.
