The US State of Maryland will set up representative offices in Hanoi and HCM City to attract Vietnam’s investment to the state and support its companies that do business in the country, according to the administration of the State.
The offices will be managed and operated by the export-import company Meiwah International Holdings based in Rockville in Maryland.
Maryland’s Secretary of Business and Economic Development, Christian S. Johansson, expressed his hope that these offices will accelerate trade and investment between Vietnam and the US.
Mr Johansson said in a press release that he was closely watching the increasing growth of the Vietnamese economy.
In 2008, Maryland exported more than US$22 million worth of goods and services to Vietnam and imported over US$65 million.
The state has so far established 13 economic and trade representative offices in countries all over the world.
