An overseas Vietnamese company has been praised by the Lao government for its contribution to Laos and its economic development.

The coffee-trading Dao Huong Group is emerging as a prosperous business in Laos and held its 10th anniversary in Laos’ capital Vientiane on May 31.

Addressing the ceremony, Laos’ Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad and other senior officials congratulated the company for its success and contribution to the country’s economy.

Dao Huong Group currently exports to Poland, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan and the Republic of Korea. Last year its export turnover reached US$10 million.

The company now has 250 hectares of coffee and is scheduled to plant another 200 hectares in southern Laos.

Dao Huong Group was set up in 2007 with its precursor Dao Huong export-import company founded in 1992. For many years it has opened tax-free shops in Vientiane, Bolikhamxay, Savannakhet and Champassak and it plans to open others in Phongsaly and Sayabouly.
