Laos expands Wattay international airport
Work started on an expansion project at Wattay international airport in the Lao capital city of Vientiane on December 28.
Sourced from the Japanese low-interest loan, the project worth US$61 million cover upgrading and expanding the runway, terminals and a parking area, and installing equipment.
It is expected to be operational by the end of 2018, serving the increasing number of foreign arrivals to Laos, particularly after the formation of the ASEAN Community.
Wattay international airport received more than 1.1 million passengers in 2015 compared to 500,000 in 2011.
The airport is expected to annually welcome almost three million travellers by 2028.
