Lang Son seeks investments from India

The northern province of Lang Son wants to attract Indian enterprises to the province’s border economic zone and industrial parks/clusters, said Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Duong Xuan Huyen.

Speaking at the "Meet India 2025" conference, organised by the committee and the Embassy of India in Vietnam on May 31 in Lang Son, Huyen said that on the basis of the good cooperative relationship between Vietnam and India, Lang Son always attaches importance to establishing and developing relations with Indian partners in general and the Indian embassy in particular.

Over the years, India has become one of the province's trusted and important partners in many fields, especially agriculture and education.

Typically, about 80% of the province’s star anise exports go to the Indian market with diverse products such as star anise essential oil, organic spices, health care products, and cosmetics. Black jelly is also a key agricultural product of the province that is gradually entering the Indian market.

At the event, Deputy Chief of Mission at Indian Embassy Hanoi Vietnam T. Ajungla Jamir assessed that Vietnam is one of the dynamic economies, having a special friendship with India over the years. Rapid economic growth in Vietnam as well as in India is creating new opportunities for bilateral economic, trade and business relations.

In addition to economic activities at the national level, strengthening cooperation between India and Vietnamese provinces and cities has become a priority for India, she said.

Lang Son is an important gateway connecting Vietnam with China and ASEAN countries, the first point of Vietnam on the Nanning (China) - Lang Son - Hanoi - Hai Phong (Vietnam) economic corridor. With the advantage of having two international border gates, a bilateral border gate and seven sub-border gates, Lang Son has emerged as an important logistics centre for many foreign companies, including those from India.

Lang Son has a large anise growing area, accounting for 70% of Vietnam's anise area and is a locality with many beautiful landscapes, valuable historical and cultural relics, notably the UNESCO-recognised Lang Son Global Geopark. These are promising areas for Indian businesses to research and seek investment and cooperation opportunities, she said.

According to the Indian official, the “Meet India 2025” sees the participation of many Indian and Lang Son province enterprises in the fields of health care, agriculture, food processing, tourism, information technology, logistics. This opens up opportunities for the two sides to build long-term and effective links and cooperation.

On this occasion, the leaders of the provincial Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Centre and the Indian Business Chamber in Hanoi signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in developing investment, trade and tourism in the coming time.
