Banco company, a branch of Namco Bandai company has been started producing toys for children in Da Nang since early 2007. Bandai plans to widen its shares and increase production in Vietnam over its Chinese counterparts.
Takara Tomy company began producing toys in Hai Phong, which have been exported to Europe since September.
Takara Tomy company highly values the potential for Vietnamese production combined with basic advantages such as theVietnamese labour price being one third compared to the Chinese and the high productivity of its workers. It plans to move 30 percent of its production bases from China to Vietnam and Thailand.
According to Japan’s Toy Production Association, nearly 90 percent of Japanese toys are produced in China. However, Japanese producers intend to change the investment direction because material and labour costs keep increasing.
Adding up to these advantages is the recent discovery of unsafe practices connected to the production of toys in China.
