The Japanese Government will continue with the second phase of its project to help Vietnam reform tax administration.

This was confirmed in the minutes of discussions between the Vietnam General Department of Taxation and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed in Hanoi on July 1.

Under the project due to begin August this year, Japan will help Vietnam improve the performance of tax employees and diversify the forms of assisting taxpayers.

Japan’s taxation agency will send its experts to provide Vietnamese tax staff with necessary skills and knowledge.

Tax administration plays an important role in mobilizing resources and creating an attractive investment climate for a country’s sustainable development.

Though JICA, the Japanese Government implemented the first phase of the project to reform tax administration in Vietnam since August 2005.

In the first phase, the project proved effective in modernizing Vietnam’s taxation sector and improving its staff’s job performance.
