Israel, Vietnam enhance agricultural cooperation

(VOV) -Leading agricultural enterprises from Vietnam and Israel discussed ways to strengthen bilateral agro-forestry- fishery cooperation at the Vietnam-Israel Business Forum held in Hanoi on July 14.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh said that Vietnam has attached great importance to attracting investment and modern technologies in the agricultural field, which has contributed to restructuring the agricultural sector to produce high quality farm produce and improve people’s living conditions.

Doanh added that Vietnam has always wanted to increase trade cooperation in trade with Israel, especially in the agro-forestry-fisheries field.

According to Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Vice President Doan Duy Khuong, two-way trade turnover in 2012 reached US$1.1 billion. Vietnam highlighted Israel’s development of science and technology in the agricultural area and both nations should devise common mechanisms to create a favourable environment for businesses and streamline administrative formalities, he said.

Israeli ambassador to Vietnam, Meirav Eilon Shahar said that Israeli is very keen on agriculture which is one of the major areas for economic cooperation with Vietnam. The forum and the launch of the Vietnam-Israel Commercial Committee during the event will facilitate trade activities between the two nations in order to create highly added value products.
