Investors selected for Lien Chieu container port master plan project

VOV.VN - The People’s Committee of Da Nang has selected a consortium comprising Hateco Group, Hateco Port Company Limited, and APM Terminals B.V. of the Netherlands to implement the Lien Chieu Container Port Master Plan Project.

The decision was formalised under a decision, which approves the investor selection for the project located in Hai Van ward. Within the consortium, APM Terminals B.V. will act as the lead investor.

The consortium was also the first investor to submit a proposal for the comprehensive construction and investment plan for the Lien Chieu Container Port project to the competent authorities.

Under the approved plan, the investors have committed to contributing VND1 trillion (approximately US$ 40 million) to the state budget during the project’s implementation. After completing Phase 1 and putting the terminal into operation, the port is expected to handle around 4 million TEU of containers annually within three years.

The project will have an operating term of 50 years from the date of land and sea area allocation or lease. The total implementation period is projected to be more than 9 years.

Authorities believe the selection of the consortium, particularly with the participation of APM Terminals, will significantly enhance the likelihood of success for the overall Lien Chieu Container Port development.

APM Terminals is one of the world’s largest container port operators and is part of the AP Moller–Maersk Group. The company currently operates more than 70 port and terminal facilities across 38 countries on five continents, while also providing inland logistics and integrated cargo services.

As part of the same ecosystem as the global shipping line Maersk, APM Terminals brings extensive expertise and deep insight into the international shipping market. This experience is expected to help the consortium address challenges in developing deep-water ports and implement effective solutions throughout the project.

Meanwhile, Hateco Group, a Vietnamese multi-industry corporation founded in 2004, has invested in several major infrastructure projects, including berths 5 and 6 at Lach Huyen Port, the Bac Tien Phong Industrial Park, and the Long Bien ICD dry port.

The Lien Chieu Container Port is planned to become an international gateway port for Vietnam’s central region. The project is expected to ease congestion at Tien Sa Port, and help establish a large-scale logistics hub serving Da Nang and the broader Central and Central Highlands regions.
