Innovation to be promoted in Eastern Economic Corridor

The Ministry of Science and Technology is going to promote the use of technology and innovation in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) for sustainable development.

According to Science and Technology Minister Atchaka Sriboonruang, the government has developed an investment plan to make the EEC more innovation-oriented. The EEC encompasses Chachoengsao, Chonburi, and Rayong provinces.

The investment plan is meant to turn the EEC into ASEAN’s leading investment destination, attracting potential investors to Thailand’s 10 targeted industries. The EEC will have its own innovative ecosystem wherein scientific research and development will be continuously supported.

Experts in digital technology will be hired to mobilize the EEC as a fully-functioning innovative industrial zone.

Atchaka added that the private sector wanted the ministry to do more to support bio-technology research and that academics should be more involved in the EEC development.
