Industrial production recovers with growth of 8.6% in eight months

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s industrial production remains on an upward trajectory, with the index of industrial production (IIP) over the past eight months estimated to rise by 8.6% over the same period last year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) reported.

Processing and manufacturing made the highest contribution to the IIP growth with an increase of 9.7%. This was followed by electricity production and distribution, up 11.6%; water supply, garbage and wastewater treatment and management, up 7.8%; and mining, up 6%.

The GSO report also showed that, over the past eight months, the IIP of some key industrial products increased sharply, including iron and crude steel, up 31%; and processed seafood, up 10.7%.

In contrast, several other products witnessed the IIP fall year on year, such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) down 15.3%; and mobile phones, down 5.2%.

In August alone, the IIP was estimated to have increased by 2% against July and 9.5% year on year.

Many experts attributed those results to the Government’s measures aimed at pushing public investment disbursement and the development of key industrial projects, together with FDI attraction and disbursement effects which have also helped to improve domestic production capacity.
