Indonesia: economic stimulus goals nearly completed

Indonesian President Joko Widodo, in an annual speech at the People’s Consultative Assembly, said the government has achieved 96% of the goals set out in its 12 economic stimulus packages.

Widodo said the economy-promoting policy packages focus on developing infrastructure, prioritising goods production and supporting private enterprises.

He also said complicated and ambiguous regulations should be simplified in favour of enterprises.

The 12th economic stimulus package was launched by the government on June 28, 2016 to rejuvenate the stagnant domestic production with policies aimed at promoting exports.

At the meeting, President Widodo also announced the abolition of more than 3,000 obscure regulations that restrict trade and business activities.
