Imports of computers, electronic products, and components hit record high

VOV.VN - Vietnam had spent over US$73.3 billion importing computers, electronic products, and components between January and November 15, the highest-ever import value of a single group of products in the country so far.

The figure represents an increase of US$9 billion, or 14.2%, compared to the same period last year, said the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

The leading import markets for these products are mainly Asian countries, such as China, the Republic of Korea (RoK), Taiwan (China), and Japan.

China was the largest import market with US$20.6 billion, an annual increase of 17.7%. It was followed by the RoK, Taiwan (China) and Japan.

As of November 15 the import-export value of computers, electronic products, and components reached US$121.6 billion, accounting for 18.86% of the country’s total import and export turnover.

Given the import and export value of computers and electronics, Vietnam slipped into a trade deficit of US$25 billion during the reviewed period.

Last year witnessed total Vietnamese import-export value for this group amount to US$130.3 billion, including US$75.5 billion worth of imports, up 28% year on year, and US$51 billion worth of exports, up 14%.

The United States, China, and the EU all represent key markets for the import of computers, electronic products, and components from Vietnam.
