Hungary is seeking opportunities to invest in economic and educational projects in southern Vietnam, said Hungarian Ambassador to Vietnam Vizi Laslo.

Addressing at a ceremony to mark Hungary’s National Day in Ho Chi Minh City on August 22, Ambassador Laslo said he is pleased to see that bilateral economic relations have developed well in recent times.

Le Minh Triet, President of the Vietnam-Hungary Friendship Association’s HCM City chapter, highlighted milestones in friendship and cooperation between the two countries, saying bilateral trade in 2007 increased by 53 percent against 2006 to reach US$90 million.

He said he hopes that cultural, educational and scientific cooperation between the two countries will further develop in the coming years.

Many Hungarian businesses have come to seek cooperation opportunities and open trade representative offices in Vietnam. During Hungarian President Solyom Laszlo’s visit to Vietnam from May 15-19, the two countries signed a credit agreement worth 35 million Euro to fund Vietnam’s projects on waste water treatment, submergence prevention, and population management.
