Huge potential for Vietnam-India tourism development

(VOV) - Vietnam Ambassador to India Ton Sinh Thanh has appreciated great potential for tourism development between the two nations as a result of the flourishing friendship, and cooperative relations and increasingly comprehensive strategic partnership in the fields of politics, economy and culture.

The Vietnamese diplomat told this in a recent media interview on the occasion of Indian Jet Airways launching direct flights from Mumbai and New Delhi to Ho Chi Minh City on November 5.

According to the Ambassador, India has tourism strength and a large population with middle class people increasing rapidly, up to 400-500 million. The number of Indians traveling abroad sees an annual rise of 10%.

The World Tourism Organization (WTO) forecasts the number of Indian travelers abroad is likely to climb up to 50 million by 2020.

Meanwhile, Vietnam’s good tourism products coupled with beautiful spots, shopping malls and cuisine festivals can attract more Indian visitors.

The number of Vietnamese travelers to India is witnessing a sharp uptrend through pilgrimage to venerate Buddhists. Therefore, the opening of direct routes between major cities, enhanced promotional programs and combined efforts by the two governments and enterprises will provide leverage for stronger growth of tourism in the time to come, Thanh noted.

The Vietnam Embassy in India is to organize a seminar for travel agencies to introduce tourism products and explore potential for future collaboration.

The Embassy will also create favorable conditions for Indian media agencies and businesses to survey tourist attractions in Vietnam and support cultural exchanges thus providing information about Vietnam and India for travelers, he said.
