Hanoi’s economy recovered sufficiently in the first quarter of the year with an estimated GDP growth rate of 8.7 percent, a more than twofold increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Hanoi Statistics Office.

Agriculture, forestry, and aquaculture experienced the highest increase of 21.6 percent, followed by industry and construction with 6.9 percent. Social investment, budget collection, and retails also saw positive signs of growths.

However, exports revenue in the past three months only rose by 3.8 percent which is attributed to the poor industrial management that still leaves much room for improvement.

In order to deal with the weaknesses, Hanoi needs to increase the responsibilities of its officials and strengthen state management of land use, the environment, social order, food hygiene and safety.
