Hanoi retains position as leading hub for foreign direct investment

VOV.VN - Hanoi continues to affirm its position as one of Vietnam’s top destinations for foreign direct investment (FDI) attracting US$4.128 billion over the past 11 months of the year, a 2.3-fold increase compared with the same period last year, according to the Hanoi Statistics Office.

The city recorded 404 new projects with total registered capital of US$333 million, while 137 projects increased their capital, totaling US$3.308 billion, including a US$1.12 billion boost by Gamuda Land Vietnam for the Yen So Park project. In addition, 380 capital contribution and share purchase transactions added US$487 million.

In November alone, Hanoi drew US$ 395.7 million in FDI, including 50 newly licensed projects worth US$14 million, 13 capital-adjusted projects at US$170.7 million, and 37 cases of capital contributions or share purchases amounting to US$211 million.

Experts attribute the city’s rising appeal to its strategic location, large and skilled workforce, improving transport infrastructure, and expanding business-support services. Administrative reforms and a more transparent business environment have further strengthened investor confidence.

The recent shift of global investment toward Southeast Asia has positioned Hanoi as a natural destination for multinational corporations seeking stability and long-term growth. The amended Capital Law, effective January 1, 2025, has introduced mechanisms to enhance the city’s competitiveness in attracting high-quality FDI.

Nevertheless, experts warn that Hanoi must prioritise selective, high-tech, and environmentally friendly investments with commitments to technology transfer and linkages with domestic firms. The city is accelerating the development of modern industrial zones and clusters to better meet investor demands.

Overall, inflows are not only growing in volume but increasingly targeting strategic sectors aligned with Hanoi’s vision of a modern, green, and sustainable urban center, signaling a new phase of high-quality, long-term investment.
