Garment exports hit record high of US$4 billion in August

VOV.VN - Vietnamese textile and garment exports surged by 24.3% to over US$26 billion during the first eight months of the year, with the export value of the products reaching US$4 billion for the first time in August alone, according to data given by the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

The eight-month figure represents an increase of US$5.14 billion against the same period from last year, making the garment and textile industry the second largest contributor to the country's export growth, following the group of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts.

Several key Vietnamese export markets for textile and garment products experienced a rise of over 20% compared to last year’s corresponding period. Specifically, exports to the US, the EU, Japan, and the Republic of Korea surged by 22.6%, 42%, 22%, and over 20% to nearly US$13 billion, US$3 billion, US$2.5 billion, and US$$ 2.1 billion, respectively.

Meanwhile, the import of raw materials and accessories for the textile and garment industry in August inched up by 7.2% to US$2.4 billion compared to the previous month. Its eight-month import value edged up 9.4% to reach over US$19 billion against the same period from last year.

China remains the largest supplier of raw materials for the Vietnamese textile and garment industry in the reviewed period, accounting for nearly 52%, with turnover reaching US$10 billion, up 9.4% year on year.
