Forum on developing Vietnam marine brand opens
(VOV) - A forum discussing the development of the aquaculture industry through branding Vietnamese fisheries products got underway in the northern port city of Haiphong on June 6.
At the forum, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Chu Pham Ngoc Hien said that the country has always placed a high priority on developing the sea-borne economic sector through building the brand name of its fisheries products.
With a coastline of more than 3,200km, Vietnam has great potential for aquaculture and offshore fishing. By 2020, the national sea-borne economy aims to generate between 53-55% of the country’s GDP and 55-60% of its total export earnings.

According to Hien, the forum is to examine a project on international marine cooperation till 2020, expecting to increase the competitiveness of the Vietnamese brand globally.
Vice chairman of the Haiphong municipal People’s Committee Do Trung Thoai said that the forum provided a great opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises, State management agencies, scientists and businesses to share information and experience and develop specific strategies for the development of brand recognition.

At the event, many agencies, professionals and scientists delivered presentations on marine brand development in a number of coastal localities such as Haiphong, Quang Tri and Quang Ngai during international integration.
The Vietnam marine brand forum has been organized since 2009, attracting about 220 presentations and thousands of ideas of the delegates.
Symposiums and photo exhibitions on the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos were held during the forum.
