Fisheries sector speeds up to earn US$5.4 billion in H2
Following a strong rebound in the first half of 2025, Vietnam’s fisheries industry is navigating both opportunities and headwinds as it works to achieve its full-year export target of US$10.5 billion, up 4.3% year-on-year.
With US$5.16 billion already generated, the sector must secure more than US$5.4 billion in the second half to meet its target, a critical phase requiring concerted efforts in market strategy, product focus, and supply chain sustainability.
Data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment estimates June exports at US$950 million, bringing total revenue for the first six months to US$5.16 billion, an increase of 16.9% over the same period last year. Key export drivers include shrimp, which earned US$2.07 billion, up 26% , and pangasius, reaching US$1 billion, up 10%.
China, the US, and Japan remained Vietnam’s top three seafood markets, accounting for 19.6%, 18.2%, and 15% of the total export value, respectively.
Notably, exports to China surged 53.7%, while shipments to the US and Japan rose by 22.8% and 9.1%. Brazil also emerged as a fast-growing market, with export value up 71.3%, signaling new potential for expansion.
