The Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) exported as much as 4.3 million tonnes of crude oil in the first quarter of 2009, which is equal to 105 percent of its set target for the reviewed period and 37 percent of its 2009 plan.

This figure represents an increase of 17 percent against the same period last year and a three percent rise from the fourth quarter of 2008, said PVN leaders at a news briefing in Hanoi on April 3.

Its total output, including gas, is equivalent to 6.43 million tonnes of oil, up 14 percent from the same period in 2008.

In this year’s first quarter, the group fetched an aggregate revenue of VND14.4 trillion from all services excluding crude oil, condensate, electricity and nitrogenous fertilizer -- a 2.1 percent rise against last year’s figure.

However, this is still lower than the group’s first quarter target, which is attributable to the global economic recession and the longer Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.

PVN strives to exceed its targets for the second quarter of the year, including extracting 4.03 million tonnes of crude oil, obtaining 2 billion m3 of gas, producing 66,000 tonnes of oil (through the Dung Quat refiner), and exporting 3.9 million of crude oil, to earn VND53 trillion in revenue, including US$1.46 billion from exports.
