The Dung Quat Oil Refinery, the first of its kind in Vietnam, will be put into operation to produce its major products in February 2009, says Truong Van Tuyen, head of the refinery management board.

Mr Tuyen says they will include generators, boilers and a pipe system for trial run to start in late May.

According to Mr Tuyen, more than 90 percent of the workload of bidding packages 1, 2, 3 and 4 has been completed. A bidding package to build a breakwater has been handed over to the management board three months ahead of schedule. Other sub-projects are also on track.

The management board has also recruited and trained more than 1,000 engineers and workers to be employed at the refinery when it is operational.
