First int’l coffee roasting competition kicks off in HCMC

Coffee enthusiasts on November 9 gathered at the School of Hospitality Professionals (SHP) in HCMC’s District 3 to watch the first coffee roasting competition held in Vietnam.

The three-day “International Coffee Roast Master Championship” attracted 24 competitors from across the country.

In particular, each competitor will be provided with a roasting machine, a grinder, coffee beans, water, a scale, and a timer to complete his or her competition within 60 minutes.

Notably, competitors are required to use home-grown coffee beans during the contest.

The semi-finalist will be rewarded VND100 million and will represent Vietnam to attend the final round, which is slated to take place in December in China’s Guangzhou.

The contest is expected to create a playground for individuals, organizations operating in the coffee sector, and coffee enthusiasts to gather for sharing coffee knowledge and roasting skills.

Further, it aims to introduce Vietnam as one of the world’s top coffee producers and exporters.

The competition was co-organized by SHP, GoldenCup International Coffee JSC, and Valleyscoffee, and will wrap up on Sunday, November 11.
