The seminar is part of series of activities to implement the Prime Minister’s directive to prevent production and trading counterfeit and low quality products.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Le Danh Vinh said there are more and more counterfeit and fake products on the market and the consumers’ rights are seriously violated. “Therefore, the seminar will get opinions to list into a draft Law on Consumer Protection to submit to the Government and the National Assembly,” he said. “It will create a legal framework to protect consumer rights.”
According to the Competition Administration Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, violations are complicated and various, from consumer products to production materials, especially wine, cigarettes, food, fertilizers, and plant seeds, which are often harmful to consumers’ health. The increasing number of violations is due to production and trading of counterfeit products bringing huge profit.
In addition, consumers and businesses do not fully understand the dangers of these products and are afraid of meeting with legal protection agencies. Particularly, production of these bogus product can make use of advanced technologies, making the identification of genuine and fake products more difficult. Therefore, State agencies and businesses should work closely with each other to protect business trademarks and consumer rights.
