Exploiting strengths of Vietnamese goods in Malaysian halal market

VOV.VN - Promoting co-operation with Malaysia in the field of halal by providing standard products and services for Muslims, is not only a priority of the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia, but also a priority area of co-operation between the two countries.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia Tran Viet Thai made the statement during a recent media interview given in Kuala Lumpur.

Moving forward, it is expected that by 2025, the Halal food industry in Malaysia alone will make up US$14 billion, accounting for 8% of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Malaysia reaffirmed its position as the world's leading halal food market in 2020 when the annual export value of these products reached US$7.5 billion.

Malaysia is an Islamic country that boasts many strengths in the sector, such as providing halal certificates, training, and chain links.

Recent times has seen the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia implement many activities, thereby creating a long-term foundation to promote economic exchanges between the two nations. These primarily focus on the development of halal standards for Vietnamese agricultural products as they seek to penetrate the markets of Malaysia, the Middle East, and other countries around the world.

Realising the strengths of Vietnamese goods for the halal market, a Malaysian Halal specialist has opened representative offices in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The halal industry includes not only food and beverages, but also all industries such as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, restaurants, hotel services, services from logistics and transportation, banking, and e-commerce, all of which can operate according to halal standards.

Furthermore, the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia is also keen to support domestic businesses and localities as they participate in exhibitions, display products, and connect online with partners in Malaysia.

Another highlight in the Embassy's chain of economic and diplomatic activities is to co-ordinate and organise conferences to introduce Vietnamese culture and tourism products in Malaysia.

Within the framework of the conferences, national Vietnamese airlines, as well as travel operators and hotels, introduced the country’s tourism products, as well as provided updated policies following the COVID-19 period.

Referring to the difficulties in terms of the implementation of diplomatic missions in service of the economy, Ambassador Thai shared that after two years of being heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been many changes made in incentive politics of Malaysian partners, thereby posing new challenges.

Moreover, the regional and global situation also significantly affects investment activities. As a result of the strategy between major countries, shifting supply chains also pose obstacles in the performance of the task, the Vietnamese diplomat added.
