Electronics trade surpasses 2025 full-year total as of mid-September

VOV.VN - Vietnam's electronics import-export turnover surged to US$341.4 billion between January and September 15, exceeding the total figure for all of 2025 by more than US$15 billion.

According to preliminary statistics from Vietnam Customs, exports accounted for US$159.1 billion, led by computers, electronic products, and components at US$110.6 billion, alongside phones and components at US$48.5 billion.

On the import side, turnover stood at US$182.3 billion, with computers, electronic products, and components making up US$174.9 billion, and phones and components contributing US$7.48 billion.

The figures brought the trade deficit for the sector to approximately US$23.2 billion over the period, fueled largely by heavy import demand for computers and electronic components to feed domestic manufacturing and assembly for export.

As domestic capacity for core inputs is limited, Vietnam consistently runs a trade deficit in electronics components, importing materials primarily for processing and subsequent re-export. Last year, imports of computers and electronic components reached US$150.7 billion against nearly US$108 billion in exports, marking a 40.7% increase compared to 2024.

The Vietnam Electronic Industries Association noted that the sector currently accounts for over 30% of the country's total export turnover. Data from 2026 indicates that the digital technology sector comprises approximately 80,000 enterprises employing over 1.9 million workers.

The expanding scale of the electronics industry creates plenty of opportunities for production and export while simultaneously underscoring the need to raise domestic localization rates and added value created by Vietnamese enterprises.
