Dung Quat oil refinery receives crude oil on lunar New Year’s Day

VOV.VN - Dozens of experts and engineers on February 1-2 received and pumped 113,000 cubic metres of oil from Apollo oil tanker into Dung Quat oil refinery.

This is the first oil tanker that has brought crude oil from Bach Ho (White Tiger) oilfield off ba Ria – Vung Tau province to Dung Quat oil refinery on lunar New Year’s Day.

“We know that receiving the first oil tanker on the lunar New Year holiday is of paramount importance to the continuous operation of Dung Quat oil refinery, a key national oil and gas project,” said Nguyen Ngoc Dung, head of Seaport Management Department of Dung Quat Oil Refinery.

During the lunar New Year holiday, about 600 experts, engineers and workers alternately work on two consecutive shifts at the plant. The oil refinery has increased its operating capacity by 103% to meet the domestic demand for petroleum.

The plant is scheduled to receive two shipments of crude oil with a total of about 180,000 tonnes on February 5-6.

Located in Quang Ngai province, central Vietnam, the Dung Quat Oil Refinery project got off the ground in 2005 and took shape six years later with a total investment of more than US$3 billion.

With a maximum capacity of 6.5 million tonnes of crude oil/year, equivalent to 148,000 barrels/day, the plant is expected to meet about 30% of local petroleum consumption demand.

It is the first oil refinery in Vietnam that produces LPG, propylene, polypropylene, A92 and A95 gasoline, kerosene, jet fuel, diesel and fuel oil.
