Dong Nai exports 220 tonnes of bananas, boosts market expansion

VOV.VN - The People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province held a ceremony on April 2 to export bananas and promote farm produce exports in 2026, aimed at introducing fresh bananas and key agricultural products while building the province’s agricultural brand.

At the ceremony, 11 containers carrying 220 tonnes of Cavendish bananas from local enterprises were exported to Japan, the Republic of Korea and China.

Dong Nai has nearly 21,000 hectares of banana plantations, with annual output exceeding 900,000 tonnes and average yields of about 55 tonnes per hectare. The province has 54 growing area codes covering nearly 7,300 hectares and 37 packing facilities for export. Around 80% of total banana output is exported, primarily to China, the Republic of Korea, Japan and Malaysia.

According to the provincial People’s Committee, the event aims to promote key agricultural products, connect producers with exporters and expand international cooperation, while providing a platform for exchanges in agricultural production and business.

In her address, Vice Chairwoman of the Dong Nai People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang said the event marks an important step in promoting high-quality agricultural products and connects regulators, scientists, businesses and farmers to strengthen cooperation and expand markets.

She said Dong Nai is not only a dynamic industrial locality but also has strong agricultural potential, with more than one million hectares of agricultural land and favourable natural conditions. The province has large-scale key crops, including nearly 288,000 hectares of rubber, more than 175,000 hectares of cashew and nearly 25,000 hectares of durian.

To date, Dong Nai has issued 194 growing area codes and established 52 packing facilities for export. Bananas account for 54 area codes covering more than 7,200 hectares, providing a foundation for international expansion. In 2025, the province recorded export values of nearly US$2.8 billion from cashew, nearly US$1.6 billion from coffee, more than US$1.3 billion from rubber, and nearly US$1.7 billion from wood and wood products.

However, the province still faces challenges such as small-scale production, limited processing and post-harvest preservation technology, and unstable markets. In the coming period, Dong Nai will focus on building a sustainable agricultural ecosystem, green economy and circular economy.

Le Viet Binh, Deputy Chief of the Southern Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, said Dong Nai is a major agricultural hub in the Southeast region, with advantages in natural conditions, high yields and year-round production.

With effective production organisation and disease control, Vietnam’s banana exports are likely to hit US$1 billion in the near future.
