Under the pact, the Vietnamese and Lao provincial authorities were committed to providing their businesses with favourable conditions to facilitate cross-border import and export activities, including opening representative offices and branches.
They also agreed to build border markets similar to the Tay Trang and Pa Hoc markets.
The provincial authorities also agreed to encourage businesses to build infrastructure and exploit the potential for tourism in their localities.
Dien Bien, Luan Prapang, Oudomxai and Phongsali provinces have recently broadened cooperation to help maintain security on the shared border.
Since the beginning of the year, Dien Bien has welcomed thousands of international visitors coming from Greater Mekong sub-region countries through the Tay Trang-Pa Hoc border gate.
In the first four months of the year, Dien Bien businesses achieved around US$300,000 in trade with its neighbouring Lao provinces.
