Deputy PM heads task force to deal with new US tariff policy
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has decided to establish a special task force to strengthen cooperation and proactively respond to adjustments in US economic and trade policies.

Under the decision dated April 3, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son has been appointed head of the task force, and Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien deputy head.
Other members include officials from various ministries in charge of foreign affairs, national defence, public security, agriculture-environment, science-technology, construction, health, culture-sports-tourism, as well as those from the State Bank of Vietnam and the Government Office.
The task force is to closely monitor developments in the international and regional landscape, especially changes in US economic and trade policies. It is responsible for proactively advising and proposing appropriate measures to flexibly and effectively adapt to these adjustments, while also promoting bilateral economic cooperation between Vietnam and the United States.
On April 2 (local time), US President Donald Trump issued an Executive Order on reciprocal tariffs applied to goods exported to the United States from countries around the world. In the order, Trump announced a 46% tariff on goods exported from Vietnam.
Immediately after the US announced the tariff imposition on Vietnamese goods, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh convened a meeting with relevant ministries and agencies to seek responsive measures.
The Minister of Industry and Trade also sent an official diplomatic note to the US, requesting a postponement of the tariff decision.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on April 4 expressed Vietnam’s regret at the US decision, and affirmed that Vietnam will continue to coordinate and engage in discussions with the US to find practical solutions, ensuring the interests of businesses and people in both countries.
