Da Nang City’s industrial production has increased sharply in the past two months and many businesses have several months worth of back orders, according to the municipal Department of Industry and Trade.

The value of industrial production is predicted to reach approximately VND715 billion in February, bringing the total for two months to VND1,906 billion, up 48.6 percent compared to the same period last year. Of the total figure, the centrally-run sector will account for VND873.3 billion, the local sector VND689.5 billion and the foreign invested sector VND343.1 billion.

Most businesses in the garment, footwear, and seafood sectors now have orders through the end of first quarter, several have orders through the end of the second quarter, and a few even for the whole year. For example, Garment Company 29/3 has orders through the end of August with revenue target of VND450 billion, up 10 percent against last year. Other companies, such as Hoa Tho Garment Joint Stock Corporation, Vinatex Da Nang JSC, and Hoa Khanh Garment Company, also have big production contracts.

By February 24, most businesses in 6 industrial and export processing zones in Da Nang had resumed normal operations after the long Tet holiday. With orders pouring in, businesses will now need to recruit thousands of new workers.
