The Prime Minister has approved the Da Nang and Chu Lai international airport projects in Da Nang City and Quang Nam province, both in Central Vietnam from now until 2015 with a vision for 2025.

Under decisions signed on May 13, Da Nang airport will have 21 aircraft landing bays by 2015 and up to 27 bays by 2025. Chu Lai airport will get 25 landing bays by 2015 but increase to 46 by 2025.

As part of the civil aviation expansion plans, Da Nang airport will build a new international terminal to handle 4,000,000 passengers each year. Chu Lai airport is expected to welcome nearly 2,248,000 passengers per year.

Da Nang airport is also expected to handle 80,000 tonnes of cargo each year by 2015 and then up to 200,000 tonnes each year by 2025. Chu Lai airport’s annual capacity will reach 1.5 million tonnes by 2015 and 5 million tonnes by 2025.

Total funding for Da Nang airport (VND4,497 billion) and Chu Lai airport (VND11,470 billion) will be sourced from both the state budget and the business sector.
