A business cooperation contract on a gas pipeline project for Block B- O Mon was signed in Hanoi on March 11 by the PetroVietnamGas Corporation (PVGas), Chevron, MOECO (Japan) and PTTEP (Thailand).

The pipeline is an important project invested in by the PetroVietnam Group, with a total of US$1 billion. PVGas contributed 51 percent of the capital; the remainder came from foreign partners.

The 398km pipeline, with 246km of it underwater and the rest on land, runs through Can Tho city and the provinces of Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau. It is capable of transporting 18.3 million m3 of gas per day and night or 6.4 billion m3 per year. This is the biggest project of its kind in Vietnam.

The main objective of the project is to transport natural gas from Block B&48/95 and Block 52/97 in the southwest seas of Vietnam, supplying gas for electricity plants at the O Mon Electricity Centre (in Tra Noc of Can Tho), the Gas-Electricity-Fertilizer Industrial Park in Ca Mau and consumers in the southwestern region.

Also, the pipeline can be connected to the system for Southeast Asia and the system for the southeastern region.
