Construction of power plant begins in Quang Ninh
(VOV) - A groundbreaking ceremony on October 23 was held to kick off construction of a US$865 million Thang Long thermal power plant project in the northern province of QuangNinh’s Hoang Bo district.
Once completed, the Thang Long Thermal Power Joint Stock Company (Geleximco) project will have two turbines with a designed capacity of 600MW and annual electricity output reaching more than 4 billion kWh.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai highlighted the efforts of Geleximco in providing capital sources and using the latest technologies and consultancy of French multinational Alstom company.
This is the nation’s first privately funded thermal power plant, Hai said, asking the provincial People’s Committee and relevant ministries to closely co-ordinate in supervision work to ensure the success of the project.
Deputy PM Hai emphasized the project is of great significance for the economic development and contributes to ensuring energy security and is expected to fully tap the advantages and potential. The first turbine will be put into operation in the second quarter of 2017 and the second turbine should be operational within 45 months.
