Cai Lan port in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh received a 40,462-tonne container ship on May 3, the biggest of its kind that has docked in the port so far.
The MSC PEGY carrying the Panama flag is 207m long and 32.24m wide. It belongs to the Mediterranean Shipping Company - the world’s second largest shipping line with regard to container transport capacity.
The Cai Lan International Container Port Co. Ltd has spent US$103 million upgrading and expanding the deep-water Cai Lan port for the goal of handling 760,000 in 2017. (one TEUS equivalent to one 20-feet container)
