Brazil pledges to serve as Vietnam’s gateway to Mercosur market

Brazilian President Lula da Silva made the affirmation at a press briefing in Hanoi on March 29, where he highlighted Vietnam’s impressive economic expansion and described it as a global model for poverty alleviation.

This marks his second visit to Vietnam, and he expressed deep admiration for the country’s remarkable transformation since his previous trip.

According to the Brazilian leader, Vietnam has sustained high economic growth over the past two decades, with each year surpassing the last. He noted the strong bilateral ties between Vietnam and Brazil, emphasizing the growing opportunities for businesses from both nations to enhance cooperation. Building on the solid foundation of existing collaboration, he reiterated his nation’s commitment to facilitating Vietnam’s access to Mercosur market.

President Lula da Silva also announced Brazil’s decision to join over 70 countries in recognizing Vietnam as a market economy. Additionally, he extended invitations to top Vietnamese leaders to attend the BRICS Summit in Brazil this July and the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 30), set to take place later this year in the South American nation.
