ASEAN Auditor Conference aims for stronger, more cohesive regional audit system

A delegation from the State Audit Office of Vietnam (SAV), led by Deputy Auditor General Ha Thi My Dung, attended the ASEAN Auditor Conference 2025 in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on May 30.

Themed “Inclusive and Sustainable Auditing for a Progressive ASEAN,” the conference brought together representatives from regional supreme audit institutions (SAIs) to discuss key challenges and innovations in the public audit sector.

The event featured multiple in-depth sessions on strengthening audit in the public sector, the role of digital audit in governance, promoting sustainable development and transparency in internal audit, future talent development, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in auditing practices.

At the sessions, representatives from the State Audit Office of Vietnam actively shared technical insights, particularly on digital transformation in auditing, and emphasised how public auditing contributes to a transparent and stable financial environment, laying a foundation for achieving Vietnam’s sustainable development goals.

Vietnam’s delegates highlighted that recent years have seen significant progress in the application of information technology in public auditing. The SAV has invested in IT infrastructure and implemented auditing software that enhances operations and communication among departments, improving efficiency in compiling audit recommendations and internal exchanges. Digital technology adoption has notably saved time, effort, and costs. The agency is also progressively exploring AI to improve audit performance.

On the sidelines of the conference, Dung held bilateral meetings with delegations from the United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s Accountability Authority and the heads of supreme audit institutions from Malaysia, Maldives, and Singapore. She expressed a strong desire to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance mutual exchange of expertise to boost public audit capacity.

Dung reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to contributing to a resilient and cohesive regional audit community, capable of adapting to global uncertainties. The conference, she noted, was a valuable platform for exchanging best practices in digital transformation and AI in auditing, crucial for meeting growing governance demands and strengthening public trust in financial transparency.

Over the past 15 years, the SAV has played an active leadership role as Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee of the ASEAN Supreme Audit Institutions (ASEANSAI), which is a key body in shaping the organisation’s development vision. Vietnam has also led technical projects, organised training workshops, and promoted good practices across member SAIs through its participation in the Knowledge Sharing Committee.

As ASEAN faces rising challenges, including digital transformation, climate change, and increasing demand for financial transparency, the conference served as a key forum for fostering deep technical dialogue and shaping practical, collaborative strategies. Member SAIs reaffirmed their commitments to advancing transparent, modern, and adaptive public auditing across the region.
