Argentina boosts yerba mate tea exports to Vietnam

VOV.VN - Argentina has recently exported its first batch of yerba mate tea amounting to seven tonnes to Vietnam, marking the beginning of its yerba mate tea project in both Vietnam and Southeast Asia, according to the Argentine Embassy in Vietnam.

Argentine Ambassador to Vietnam Pablo Beltramino says he hopes that yerba mate tea will be soon included in the diverse list of quintessential herbal tea products favoured by Vietnamese consumers. He also believes that Vietnamese costumers will quickly grow fond of this product due to a variety of ways it can be enjoyed, including both hot and cold tea.

Matéa TM Company which is the exclusive distributor of yerba mate tea in Vietnam, is planning to open a franchise chain related to yerba maté tea drinks in Hanoi in early November. Bui Minh Tien, CEO of Matéa TM, says his firm will pioneer to introduce Argentina’s tea culture to Vietnamese people.

Despite being heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, two-way trade between Vietnam and the South American country rose 4.3% in 2020 compared to 2019, hitting US$3.95 billion.

Key Vietnamese export items to Argentina include phones and components, computers, electronic products and components, machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts, raw materials for textiles and garments, leather and footwear.

In return, Vietnam mainly imported corn, animal feed and raw materials, cotton, soybeans, and animal fat from the South American country.

The Argentine side highly appreciates the potential that exists within the Vietnamese market as they seek to boost their advantageous items, such as beef, seafood, soybeans, and wood to the nation.

Ambassador Beltramino says Argentina will promote the export of lemons and pomelos to Vietnam in the near future.

The diplomat also reveals Argentina also plans to import more high-quality Vietnamese agricultural products, strengthen trade exchange activities, and seek investment opportunities among businesses of both countries.
