Ample room for Vietnamese farm produce to penetrate France

VOV.VN - Vietnam has great potential for exporting its farm produce to France - a lucrative market with high demand of agricultural products for local consumption, according to the Vietnamese Trade Office in France.

Though France is the world’s second largest ocean power, it only ranks 24th among seafood exporting countries globally, with its export value equivalent to a quarter of the import value of the products.

Besides its shrinking cultivated area, France has increased the import of fruit juices and exotic fruits such as avocados, mangos, dragon fruits among others. Statistics show more than half of vegetables and fruits consumed in France are imported.

France imports approximately 600,000 tonnes of rice, making up one third of the total volume of rice purchased by the European Union every year. Yet, Vietnamese rice shipped to the French market only accounts for about 2.1% of the market share.

To penetrate the demanding market, Vu Anh Son, chief representative of the Vietnamese Trade Office suggested that Vietnamese businesses, especially small and medium-sized ones, actively participate in trade fairs and exhibitions in France, along with making full use of incentives from the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

Maintaining stable product quality especially for fresh agricultural products is the prerequisite for Vietnamese products to make inroads into the market, said Son.

The Trade Office will continue to launch a series of promotional activities to popularize Vietnamese agricultural products in supermarket chains in France. It will also organize more activities to connect the two countries’ businesses in an effort to bring Vietnamese products closer to French consumers.
