Agro-forestry-fishery exports hit US$7.6 billion in Q1

The export value of agricultural, forestry and aquatic products reached US$7.6 billion in the first three months of 2017, a year-on-year increase of 7.6%.

In March alone, the earnings from these products were estimated at US$2.9 billion, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The increase was buoyed by a year-on-year surge of 13% in the export value of wood and wood products in the first quarter to US$1.7 billion, with US$649 million earned in March.

Aquatic product exports in the period grew by 3.6% from the same period of 2016, to US$1.5 billion, including US$537 million in March.

Meanwhile, rice exports dropped 18.1% in volume and 17.3% in value year- on-year, to 1.28 million tonnes and US$566 million. In March alone, Vietnam exported 542,000 tonnes of rice for US$251 million.

Coffee exports saw a drop of 5.4% in volume to 449,000 tonnes, but a surge of 25.6% in value, reaching US$1 billion.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the import value of agro-forestry-aquatic products in the first quarter was estimated at US$6.01 billion, up 14.3% year on year, including US$1.96 billion worth of products imported in March.

The value of agro-forestry-aquatic production enjoyed a year-on-year increase of 1.98% in the first quarter, of which the agricultural sector up 1.41%, forestry 5.04%, and fishery 3.59%.
