18 Vietnamese vessels in Middle East region remain safe

VOV.VN - Eighteen vessels owned by Vietnamese companies operating in the Middle East have remained safe so far, according to the Vietnam Maritime and Waterway Administration on March 20.

They include six vessels flying the Vietnamese flag and 12 others registered under foreign flags. Among them, 10 are currently operating within the Strait of Hormuz, four are near the strait, and the remaining four are outside the area. All the vessels and their crews are reported to be safe.

According to vessel owners, some ships are continuing normal operations, while others have anchored and are waiting to transit the Strait of Hormuz. Several owners have requested the Government and relevant authorities to engage with Iranian authorities to help ensure the safety and security of their vessels and facilitate safe passage through the strait as soon as possible.

To enhance the safety of Vietnamese vessels and crew members, and minimise potential disruptions to maritime transport and trade activities, the Administration proposed that the Ministry of Construction ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strengthen cooperation with authorities in the Middle East, particularly Iran.

It also requested that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs direct Vietnamese diplomatic missions in the region to closely monitor developments and promptly provide information and support to Vietnamese vessels and crew members in case of emergencies.

The Administration has instructed maritime authorities to step up monitoring of the global shipping market and keep businesses informed, enabling them to proactively adjust import-export plans and select appropriate transport options.
