The demand of fertilisers nationwide in 2009 is estimated to reach 7.8 million tonnes, including 1.7 million tonnes of urea, 1.85 million tonnes of NPK, 0.7 million tonnes of DAP and 1.6 million tonnes of phosphate, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Based on the production capacity of Ninh Binh and Phu My fertilizer plants, Vietnam is expected to import only 0.75 million tonnes of urea. It will also import 0.45-0.5 million tonnes of DAP.
To ensure the market laws of supply and demand, the chemicals and oil and gas sector has been asked to fully exploit the production capacity of the existing fertiliser plants to guarantee a minimum of 0.95 million tonnes of urea, alongside speeding up construction of Ninh Binh, Bac Giang and Ca Mau fertiliser plants.
