A 5.4 magnitude earthquake that sent tremors across wide areas of central and western Japan on April 15 injured at least five people and damaged dozens of local houses.

After the quake, some 4,300 houses in northern Mie Prefecture were left without power, Kyodo News reported.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, this is the first time since 1923 an earthquake measuring over 5 degrees on the Richter scale has taken place in central Mie Prefecture.

Meanwhile, more than 17 people were killed when a flash flood hit southern Thailand on April 14. At least 12 people are still missing and many others injured, the Thai News Agency reported.
