Vietnam appreciates WB assistance

(VOV) - Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh has valued the World Bank’s policy consultations and development assistance to Vietnam while receiving WB country director Victoria Kwakwa on January 16.

Vietnam wants to consult the WB about development policies, and it appreciates consultations the bank has provided to over the years, said Ninh.

The World Bank is a key, long-term partner of Vietnam, Ninh told Kwakwa.

The Deputy PM emphasized the importance of Vietnam’s ongoing scheme to restructure credit organizations and State-owned businesses, and assured his guest that the government will take great pains to make the process efficient.

Kwakwa voiced the WB’s support for the government’s decision to speed up financial reform and business restructuring, and vowed to assist this process.

The WB is a long-term development partner, and one of its goals is to provide technical assistance, policy consultations and capital, she said.

Kwakwa briefed Ninh on the encouraging results of the WB-funded poverty reduction credit support programme (PRCS) totaling US$150 million.

She revealed that the WB boards of directors plan to approve a US$250 million programme for Vietnam in March 2013 to support economic management and improve its competitive capacity.
