Turning Phu Yen into a developed province in south-central coastal region
VOV.VN - President Tran Dai Quang has urged local authorities to turn Phu Yen into a developed province in Vietnam’s south-central coastal region.
Quang asked for efforts to build South Phu Yen economic zone into one of the industrial centers and major sea ports of the region and develop tourism as a key economic sector by diversifying tourism products and boosting links with other localities.
He also called on Phu Yen to encourage the application of technological advances to improve the productivity and quality of agricultural produce, while combining the program of building new rural with investment projects for agriculture.
Phu Yen should fulfill these tasks so as to achieve their goals of socio-economic development, defense and building political system, he added.
The President also asked Phu Yen to pay greater attention to building the transparent, effective and friendly political system and modern administration, while continuing realising the Party’s resolutions on Party building and studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example.
Phu Yen achieved a GDP growth of 8.4 % in 2015 and 7.9% in the first six months of this year. The province's average per capita income reached VND32.8 million VND (US$1,467) last year.
A number of support policies have been adopted for ethnic minority groups while social security has been ensured.
The same day, President Tran Dai Quang visited fishermen in Dong Hoa district, Phu Yen province.
He asked Ministries, sectors and Phu Yen province to support fishermen with loans to build ships for offshore fishing and set up fishing groups and collectives.
Quang also asked marine police and border security soldiers to disseminate information and support fishermen.
He urged Phu Yen province to take measures to purchase and process seafood to help increase fishermen’s income and encourage offshore fishing.
