Quang Ninh urged to tap development potential

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has asked the northern province of Quang Ninh to focus on socio-economic development and Party building work.

Trong made the suggestion during his working session with provincial leaders at Van Don special administrative-economic zone on April 7.

It was reported that in the last two years, Quang Ninh recorded an annual GDP growth rate of 9.53 percent, while its average per capita income reached more than US$2,600 per annum, 1.7 times higher than the national level.

The province’s economic structuring on the right track and it is always among the top five localities nationwide with the highest State budget revenues.

Local people’s living conditions have been improved, with the rate of poor households decreasing rapidly to 3.52 percent.

Quang Ninh also took back 179 breached land use projects, cracked down on illegal coal mining and trade, and dealt with current pressing issues, including environmental pollution, corruption and medical ethics.

Party leader Trong asked the province to pool all resources to tap its development potential.

He reminded Quang Ninh to better deal with the relationship between economic development and environmental protection to achieve steady growth.
