President meets coast guard, fisheries surveillance forces

(VOV) - State President Truong Tan Sang on July 1 paid a visit to Vietnam’s coast guard and fisheries surveillance forces at the Vietnam Coast Guard (VCG)’s information centre in Hanoi.

He voiced his appreciation for their efforts to protect the nation’s sea and islands sovereignty over the past two months ever since China illegally placed its Haiyang Shiyou-981oilrig in Vietnam’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and continental shelf.

Major general Nguyen Quang Dam, VCG Commander, reported to President Sang on the recent development pertaining to law enforcement at sea and the struggle against China’s illegal acts.

Sang praised the marine forces’ campaign to force China to withdraw its rig from Vietnam’s waters and protect fishermen and oil and gas exploration and exploitation as well as combating smuggling. He urged them to prepare plans to fulfill tasks in all difficult circumstances.

Sang also underlined the need disseminate information to Chinese forces in order to help them understand their violations and Vietnamese people’s justice and tolerance.

Visiting the Vietnam Fisheries Surveillance Force (VFSF), Sang applauded their unyielding spirit, bravery to protect fishermen, noting that the State will provide them with with essential and modern equipment.
